Alka Pool
The Project
This ultra modern home is situated on a sloped terrain and backed by a grove of evergreen trees. Though the architecture is bold with its geometric shapes, the color palette remained neutral to blend with the surrounding woodland. This allows the centerpiece of the outdoor living space, the gorgeous infinity pool, to make a splash with its vibrant blue hue.
The outdoor living space has many separate areas with diverse uses that cohesively make up a whole. Through the main glass doors sits a seating/lounge area that extends into the pool with its Baja shelf. Nestled in the corner is a covered alcove perfect for dining al fresco with an inviting view of the adjacent pool.
The infinity edge portion of the pool follows the steps into the lower backyard breaking up the slope with its tiered levels and acting as a water feature when viewed from below. This creates another terraced focal point for the lower living space. To counterbalance the modern structured clean lines of the home, the landscaping in this lower garden is very organic and beautifully unstructured emulating the grassy nature of the forest floor.
The pool itself is multifunctional with its varied depths and lengths. One can cool off while lounging on the extensive Baja shelf or enjoy aqua fitness in the side swim area. At 4’0” depth, this smaller swim area is ideal for pool games with the additional benefit of keeping down costs and providing low maintenance. Still yet, there is a swim lane that runs the length of the pool for the fitness savvy.
The infinity pool has a custom color quartz plaster finish in a French Grey hue. This plaster choice blends into the surroundings at the lounging ledge yet creates a gorgeous cerulean blue tone at the deeper points of the pool. The tile band and infinity edge were tiled with a Desert Grey tile that fits with the theme and provides a serene backdrop to the informal and rustic gardens below. Colorful LED lights were included for additional vibrancy at the flick of a switch.
